Toshihiro Okamoto, MD, PhD

Dr. Toshihiro Okamoto attended Kyoto University in1991 where he received his MD Degree in 1997 and in 2006 he furthered his study at Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University and received his PhD Degree in 2010. He completed his Residency in Surgery at the Department of Surgery, Kyoto University Chest Research Institute in 1997. He is now the Director of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and Associate Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

He had multiple residencies and fellowships in Japan and USA, including resident in Gifu National Hospital, Gifu, Japan; Clinical Fellow in Kansai Electric Power Hospital, Osaka and Kyoto University Hospital; Research Fellow at Dept. of Surgery in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Pittsburgh, PA, USA; as well as Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Dept. of Pathobiology, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland and Clinical Fellow at Dept. of General Thoracic Surgery, Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

He joined the Transplant Center, Cleveland Clinic in 2013 as Research Associate; and since 2014 he has been a Clinical Associate.

He is actively involved in national and international associations, such as the Japanese Society for Surgery, Japanese Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Japanese Association for Chest Surgery, International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and The Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
