Erich Stoelben, MD, PhD

Prof Dr. med. Erich Stoelben received his MD Degree from the University Erlangen in 1983 and continued his study at the University Marburg and Bordeaux where he received his PhD degree in 1987. He completes his Thoracic Surgery Residency at Thoraxclinic Heidelberg in 1991. Following his fellowship at the University Hospital Mannheim (1991-1993) and University Hospital Dresden (1993-1998), he became the Consultant, Assistant medical director and Deputy Head of Thoracic Surgery at the University Hospital Freiburg (1999-2004). After that, he has been the Head of Department, Lung clinic, Hospital of Cologne since 2005 and Chair of Thoracic Surgery, Private University Witten/Herdecke since 2013. His surgical expertise includes Tracheobronchial Surgery, Minimal invasive Surgery and Functional Thoracic Surgery (Emphysema, Diaphragm). In particular, he was the President of the German Society of Thoracic Surgery (2017 – 2019).
